Expect steep descents, forest paths and hundred-year-old trees. The trail begins near the bus stop. Follow the blue tourist marker to the signpost called Gránické Údolí – Křížová Cesta (Gránické Valley – Stations of the Cross). The steeply ascending forest path is lined with snow-white Baroque chapels up to the top of the Hradiště hill.
To the right of Hradiště, an unpaved path leads to St. Elias Chapel. Breathe in, breathe out – it is so beautiful! The view of the royal town of Znojmo on the opposite hill, the castle area, Znojmo Reservoir and the calm Dyje River is remarkable. After you enjoy the nice view, descend along stony zigzag paths along the red tourist trail called “Cestami Okrašlovacího Spolku” (Along the Paths of the Beautifying Association) to Gránické Údolí (Gránické Valley), below the dam of the Znojmo Reservoir.
Stará Vodárna (Old Waterworks) will provide you with some refreshments and then you can continue by following the yellow tourist marking along a well-kept crooked path. Then pass through Karolininy Sady (Caroline’s Orchards), where you can find the remnants of the original municipal fortification and one of the preserved bastions. These are followed by Rajská Zahrada (Paradise Garden) and neat lines of grapevines. Up to St. Nicholas Church! Two more curves and the Znojmo Municipal Brewery appears in front of you – what a delicious reward! Don’t forget to take a few more steps and visit the Rotunda of St. Catherine. As your second reward, the most beautiful view in Znojmo will open up to you.
