Your starting point is the ZOO in Hodonín. It will be easy to find the bike trail through Baader Alley. It is less than 3 kilometres to the waters of the Hodonín ponds, which date back at least to the 15th century. Instead of walking along the shore, you can take a walk across the centre of the ponds here! Carps, zanders, tenches, pikes and many other fish species are kept here and a countless number of birds and water animals nest in the reeds. Not far from the ponds, visit Kohútek, a borehole more than 130 metres deep which brings delicious water. The water is regularly inspected and very popular with locals.
Get back to the ponds again. The blue tourist marker will lead you through Hodonínská Dúbrava (Hodonín Oakwood). It has the status of a natural monument – this oakwood several centuries old which stands on windblown sands is exceptionally airy and provides shelter to protected fauna and flora. The Baroque St. John’s Chapel with a small rest area is the symbolic centre of the wood.
Head back to the ZOO Hodonín across undemanding terrain. The zoo is one of the most recently founded in the Czech Republic, but it is valued for its natural character. Every year, it has success breeding juveniles of rare species. Siberian tigers, East African lions and a young female camel have been born here. If you miss the opening hours, we can recommend a virtual tour!
