The red tourist trail will lead you along the M. Kudeříkové Path from the train station in Strážnice to Tvarožná Lhota. In the village, make a little detour to the Farmhouse (Selský Dům), the local exhibition is an example of cottage-cheese production and a listed building. You will cross the Appleberry Nature Trail (Oskerušová Stezka). Appleberry trees are among the oldest and most fertile in Europe; even a tree which is three hundred years old gives more than a ton of fruit. The tree’s wood is among the strongest, and the local tall specimens are unique in the world.
Then go to Kněždub, to the house where the Úprka brothers were born. Both of them were intensely engaged in artistic creation and they raised awareness of the traditions of the Slovácko region. The yellow tourist marker will lead you to the Lučina Reservoir. Jump in the water and also enjoy some refreshments in the recreational area! After walking a little further, you will approach Salaše (Sheepfolds), log houses and an arboretum of original woody plants accompanied by footbridges, ropes and a climbing tree. Every year, there is the Appleberry Festival (Oskerušobraní) at Salaše!
Your destination today is a high one: the Travičná Hill (379 metres above sea level) with a lookout tower and an exhibition about the White Carpathians Protected Landscape Area. From the tower’s height of 35 metres, you will see not only the crowns of the appleberry trees but also the hills of Pálava, Chřiby and Beskydy. From the lookout tower, follow the Appleberry Nature Trail (Oskerušová Stezka) around the memorable Oskoruše pod Starýma Horama (Appleberry Under the Old Mountains) and along the red trail back to Strážnice.
