Blueprint came to our country from the Far East. Today it is one of the rare traditional crafts of the Czech Republic. It evokes folk culture and can only be seen in two places in the country.
One of the last blueprint workshops in the Czech Republic that meets the conditions and can produce blueprints is the one in Strážnice in Moravian Slovakia. It was founded by the Joch family in 1906 and today, among the bundles of fabrics, litres of indigo colour and special moulds, you will be welcomed by the fifth generation who are lovingly devoted to this beautiful craft.
During the tour, they will show you the production process and you will be able to print your own design and leave with a unique linen ready to become a new favourite piece of your wardrobe. They will even let the kids get to work! Bring your own fabric and turn it into a blue and white original according to your imagination.
The Strážnice workshop also organizes special events where you can try not only printing using old moulds, but also screen printing or brush painting.
If you’re enchanted by blueprinting but don’t feel like doing your own creative experiments, you can choose from ready-made products in the shop. Traditionally, it was mainly linen that was dyed, but nowadays cotton predominates. Wear a blueprint dress or shirt and make your home more comfortable with new bed linen.
The traditional technology of blueprinting was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2018, and the second place where you can admire the master blueprint makers is the workshop of the Danzinger family in Olešnice.
