Strážnice is not merely a haven for folk traditions, its renowned open-air museum, and delectable Moravian wine; it also boasts a rich Jewish heritage.
The former Jewish community is commemorated by the synagogue, accompanied by a Jewish cemetery and the ritual immersion bathhouse, or mikvah, which was unearthed thanks to the efforts of a local historian. The synagogue also serves as a concert and exhibition hall showcasing Jewish-themed art. As you enter, gaze upwards to the 'starry sky' adorning the ceiling. On the exterior façade, discover the sundial marking the passage of time.
The exhibition "Lived Among Us" delves into the stories of Strážnice's Jewish community. The town's unique arrangement of these landmarks is noteworthy – no need to trek across town to reach the Jewish cemetery from the synagogue. All three sites stand side by side, offering a convenient and comprehensive exploration of Strážnice's Jewish heritage.
