By bicycle, on foot, by car, on horseback... Podyjí National Park offers an endless array of excursion opportunities. Take a trip, for example, to Sealsfield Stone.
Podyjí is the only national park in Moravia. The river valley, nestled in a richly forested landscape, will enchant you. Moreover, it is so vast that it extends to the Austrian side, where it connects with Thayatal National Park, forming a cross-border bilateral protected area.
Romantic sceneries abound, featuring steep cliffs contrasting with tranquil river meanders, floodplain meadows alongside sun-drenched forest-steppe areas. This unique habitat houses an extraordinary variety of fauna and flora in high concentration over a relatively small area. If you have never seen the beautiful fire-bellied toad, this is your chance (after the rain)!
Podyjí National Park caters to tourists of all kinds. Cyclists love it here because the terrain offers diversity, with rugged stretches, sunlit meadows, and heathlands, as well as border castles, chateaus, and deep forests to admire along the way. However, please stick to the marked trails. We highly recommend mountain or trekking bikes as the area isn't suitable for road cycling. Yellow SELF-SERVICE signs will guide you to locations with technical assistance and first aid equipment for bike repairs or any emergencies.
Embark on a highly recommended excursion to the Šobes vineyard, where you will be captivated by 23 breathtaking viewpoints offering stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape. Don't miss the opportunity to marvel at Sealsfield Stone, gracefully perched high above the meandering bends of the Dyje River! Surprisingly, this stone formation bears the name of the esteemed writer Charles Sealsfield, a native of nearby Popice. Before his emigration to the USA, he chose this pseudonym, writing evocatively about Native Americans and becoming an inspiring figure for Karl May. Even though he later resided in America, he cherished coming here to meditate.
To reach the enchanting viewpoint at Sealsfield Stone, follow the serene green hiking circuit route, seamlessly commencing and concluding on the red main trail of Podyjí, nestled between Konce and Popice.
