Since the mid-16th century, the synagogue provided material and spiritual support to Moravian Jews. Even today, the place exudes a profound nobility.
As the center of the Moravian Jewish community, the seat of the regional rabbi, and a unique architectural solution – all embody the essential structure of the Jewish quarter in Mikulov (and the local extensive cemetery is also worth a visit!).
Since the mid-16th century, the synagogue has provided material and spiritual support to Moravian Jews and was the focal point of the community at that time. However, it burned down in the early 18th century and acquired its present Baroque form through reconstruction and thoughtful renovation. Its uniqueness lies in the vaulting of four domes, a characteristic feature of Polish-type synagogues. The Upper Synagogue in Mikulov is the last surviving example of this type of synagogue in our country.
The unique, noble space highlights selected exhibitions and cultural events. Come and admire the delicate beauty and symbolism of the Jewish faith, perhaps in exhibitions titled Rabbi Löw and Jewish Education in Moravia.
