An elegant, exotic chateau in the Empire style. Really! First it was a monastery, then a factory and a chateau after that.
This structure in Boskovice is indeed a chateau today, but only since the beginning of the 19th century. It owes its chic Empire appearance to the Dietrichstein family. You can expect French elegance, nothing like the Konopiště Chateau in Central Bohemia. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the Empire style in Moravia. With the adjacent park and the surrounding buildings, such as the greenhouse with arcades and riding stables, it forms a distinctive artistic and architectural unit.
When you go on a tour, you will probably notice some unusual or curious objects. The local copper globe, where the starry sky is represented by heraldic emblems, is one of only three in the world. Visitors will see wars against the Turks painted on buffalo skin in the hall of battles, or a technically sophisticated children’s theatre in the Rococo style.
You will recognize the largest room in the chateau right away. It is a magnificent dancing hall with an illusory painting spanning two floors. To this day, it is used as a concert hall which can accommodate 150 music lovers. The representative interiors of the chateau are decorated with fine stucco and fabric wallpaper, polished furniture and painted porcelain.
The last owners of the Boskovice Chateau, the Mensdorff-Pouilly family, have opened it to the public. Go on a night tour, watch a fencing show or fireworks with your kids or attend a classical music concert (in the open air if the weather is nice) without your kids.
