A pearl of South Moravia, which emerges in front of you on the way from Brno to Křtiny and takes your breath away with its majestic beauty.
An important piece of Baroque architecture and a place of pilgrimage is the Church of the Name of the Virgin Mary designed by Jan Blažej Santini. It is his largest building on the layout of a Greek cross. He situated his church in the beautiful landscape just perfectly, you can tell he was a true master architect straight away. No wonder it is one of the most frequently visited places of pilgrimage in Moravia.
The beginning of the pilgrimage tradition in the Middle Ages was connected with a Gothic statue of the Madonna. You can see it on the main altar today. Apart from that, we also draw your attention to one of the largest carillons in Central Europe (unfortunately, it only plays twice a week, but it can also play on special occasions by prior arrangement).
Whether you come here by car or on a regular bus line from Brno, make sure to keep your eyes open. Approaching the majestic church is an experience in itself.
Do not be in a rush to leave the area, for there are many things to do in the surroundings. You can find some other beautiful architecture in the castle park. Visit the Křtiny Arboretum to admire nature and unravel mysteries in the Křtiny Ossuary (but be careful, it does not have fixed opening hours, so check its schedule before your trip). If you are seeking adventure, head for the Moravian Karst, where you can choose among the Výpustek Cave, Rudické propadání (Rudice Sinkhole), the Býčí Skála (Bull Rock) Cave and other sites.
We can definitely recommend the dozens of kilometres of singletrack for cyclists. It’s all well worth the visit, isn't it?

Trees are not boring. Get close to them on the nature trail in the Arboretum Křtiny and you will feel a zen-like calm.
